The Right Honorable Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene

Prime Minister of Mongolia

Government of Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Dear Prime Minister,

I write you on behalf of the Chinggis Khaan Memorial Foundation, in support of Mr. Munkhbayar Chuluundorj. The Chinggis Khaan Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the memory of Chinggis Khaan in the United States. As Executive Director of the Chinggis Khaan Memorial Foundation, I have met and worked with many Mongols from different parts of the Mongolian world, in connection with our annual Chinggis Khaan memorial ceremony. I met Mr. Munkhbayar in Japan and the United States on several occasions, and got to know him well, and consider him to be a good friend. Mr. Munkhbayar has an international reputation and is known to Mongol communities all over the world as an individual who has a strong and deep commitment to Mongolian human rights, freedom and independence. I can vouch for the good character and honesty of Mr. Munkhbayar, and know that his commitments to Mongolian human rights, freedom and independence of Mongolia are genuine. I believe he should be given every opportunity by the Mongolian government to express his views freely and without restraint on matters related to his commitment to Mongolian independence. There is a perception that the legal proceedings against Mr. Munkhbayar are being motivated by pressures arising from either the Chinese government or organizations closely aligned with the Chinese government. I believe it is not only a liability for the government of Mongolia to bow to such pressures, but also runs the risk of denying the Mongolian people’s right to their own national freedom. For this reason, I urge you to do all that you can to release Mr. Munkhbayar from this false incarceration and restore all of his freedoms immediately.

Sincerely yours,

Chuluu Ujiyediin

Executive Director
